Microsoft’s roadmap of products and services planned for the year has been leaked online to showcase that the company is working on new updates as well as a cloud-based version of Windows OS slated to launch next year. Going by the leaked photo posted by Faikee on the Neowin forum, Microsoft is working on major software updates like Windows 9 and Office 2015, which are expected to get launched in 2015. Besides these, the company is also working on Windows 365, and Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, which could launch by the end of 2014.
According to the report, Microsoft is working on a major update for its Windows platform. It will launch separate editions of Windows 9 for desktop and mobile, instead of launching a common OS for both as was rumored earlier. The updates will be named as Windows 9 and Windows Phone 9.
The interesting part is that while the Windows 9 update is projected for next year, the company is likely to launch the Windows 8.1 Update 2 later this year.
It has been rumored that in order to grow the user number for the Windows 9 update, Microsoft might launch it for free for all Windows 8.1 users. Apple has also started providing Mac OS X versions for free to existing Mac users.
Apart from these, the roadmap also details Windows 365 as an alpha, which will be based on Windows Core and is expected to be a cloud-based software platform that would be integrated in Office 365.
Nothing concrete can be said about the aforementioned information, considering that these could just be another set of rumors, or the company might change its plans in future.
