Microsoft has announced the public release of it's new Surface computer - essentially a table-based touchscreen.
The $10,000 table is initially going to be aimed at retailers, casinos and business, but eventually I would imagine the price will drop and they'll try and push the technology for home use - we've seen Bill Gates use this technology on stage at various conferences, and on a recent visit to Microsoft HQ in Redmond, I saw this deployed in the company's "digital home". More jargon here.
Looks kind of nifty - and another boost for touch-based computing.

HP needs a bigger market share this being the purpose for launching new desktop computers with better designs, better prices and better specs.
HP Pavilion Slimline s3000 series have AMD processors and 1GB of ram for $500, and if you choose Intel inside it’s $550. For these prices you get to choose from two graphic cards, not the best but good enough. This is the medium priced desktop in the new series they’ve launched, which you can use with a TV tuner or a Pocket Media Drive bay.
If you are looking for lower prices you can take a look at HP a6000 series starting from $330 on Intel processors, 512MB ram, integrated graphics and Pocket Media Drive bay. Of course it has more inside but not worth mentioning now. It’s a good buy for the lower end PC market. Now if you are serious gamer for example or you just need a bigger beast you get yourself the m8000 series coming with HD DVDs, AMD or Intel dual core processors that you will have to pay at least $950.

With the recent interest in the Dual Core D805 from Intel and its ability to be overclocked very far due to its lower front bus speed, Tomshardware have put together a “gaming computer” using this processor at it’s core.

Setting up a case with a water cooling solution and installing appropriate parts, they show that you really can make a very good computer from this budget chip. Although there is some argument as to whether they made the best choices on the parts, the point is that it is fairly simple to achieve these high speeds for a very low price.

The dual core D805 is in essence the same chip as its bigger brothers. In order to keep costs down, manufacturers make an entire series using exactly the same chips and then change the multipliers in order to get the different models in the range, with appropriate pricing to match.

Water cooling is essential if you want to hit 4GHz with the processor. Unfortunately heat increases very quickly as clock speeds are increased and can become a worry when overclocking so far beyond specifications. However, as noted in their forums, there isn’t really too much of a worry. If you compare it to the others in the range, it is not really being pushed so far as the silicone used is exectly the same. Heat still needs to be kept down though.

Nearly any old case will do, get a decent LGA775 motherboard which allows good overclocking and you’re set.

Every now and again these little gems pop up, there are people who jump no the bandwagon and those who think its just silly and express all sorts of doubts. Well, if you are thinking of upgrading and you do fancy putting together your own computer that will probably beat any pre-built computer hands down, then this might be your best bet.

This systemax computer is aimed at being a media center computer. It has all the stuff it needs, but are they adequate and do they warrant the price tag on this system.
The main feature that stands out for this computer is that it is Intel VIIV certified. What this means is that the whole system contains Intel parts, which match up to a certain level of performance, and that it has Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition installed as the operating system. It doesn’t really guarantee that you get anything better, just that it meets those minimum system levels.

Never slow in adopting the latest technology, Mesh's latest addition to its Matrix product line uses the new version of the AMD Athlon 64 processor; the 3400+.
Housed in the now-familiar black Mesh case, the Matrix 64 3400+ is laden with goodies and offers a fair bit of future-proofing into the bargain, especially as 64-bit software and games are in their early days.
The Athlon 64 3400+ processor is rated at 2.2GHz, has 1MB of Level 2 cache and an 800MHz FSB. It is compatible with both 64-bit and 32-bit applications, which is handy as 64-bit apps are noticeable by their absence.
Backing up the CPU is 1GB of PC3200 (DDR 400MHz) memory in the form of two 512MB modules. The motherboard can support a maximum of 3GB in three DIMM slots, so there's no lack of performance available from this PC.
On opening the tool-free side panel, the internals are neat and tidy with pride of place going to the Asus K8V Deluxe motherboard which, with all the data and power cables neatly clipped out of the way, is easy to get to.
